Old
Darkness
Down
an old dirt road, back where I come from
Where
the black bears gather and the gray wolves run
There's
some sites to see and some folks to know
But
there's still some places that ya just don't go
Past
the Eagle's Crest off of 303
Ya
best read the signs nailed to the trees
They
say, " your grave is just beyond this sign
If
ya wanna see it just cross this line"
And
there's some that's tried it and a legend's told
Of
a wild-eyed giant with a viper's soul
But
you won't hear those stories from nobody who's walked in
But
there's a few old timers down by Shadow Creek
That
talk of crazy laughter after dying screams
They
just call him " Old Darkness"
'Cause
when ya meet him your day will end
They
say his daddy was a trapper and his mama was insane
He
lost 'em both at twelve years old and he puts the world to blame
Now
he don't take to strangers and he don't need no friends
And
he don't pack those shells with salt son, he loads 'em full of lead
And
there's some that's tried it and a legend's told
Of
a wild-eyed giant with a viper's soul
But
you won't hear those stories from nobody who's walked in
But
there's a few old timers down by Shadow Creek
That
talk of crazy laughter after dying screams
They
just call him "Old Darkness"
'Cause
when ya meet him your day will end
Now
I live out in the timber and barbwire don't bother me
You
may catch me on posted land but not near 303
'Cause
Old Darkness he won't warn ya, he won't waste his breath
And
he don't pack those shells with salt son, he loads 'em full of lead
