Loser's Table
Old cliches and alibis
Stale cologne and bloodshot eyes
Memories that refuse to die
And youth was long ago
Lucky Strikes and lukewarm beer
Routine seems to lead him here
To bend his elbow and an ear
Well at least he's not alone
And he says ...
Home is where the heart is
Ya see I'm from a broken home
Ya know the funny part is
I don't know where it went wrong
Cause answers lead to more questions
And truth reveals more lies
And I gave up on explanations
When I gave up on life
A faded dress long out of style
Pretty eyes, a tainted smile
She sits to visit for awhile
She once was young herself
Dusty songs and farewell lines
Lying mirrors and wasted time
Promises got left behind
Or spent on someone else
She says...
I used to drown these sorrows
But now they've somehow learned to swim
Maybe I'll get straight tomorrow
If I can find a reason then
Love comes once a lifetime
And I remember when
When tears come close it's time to toast
And fill 'em up again
Blame the jukebox for the silence
Blame the smoke for the tears
Pour one for the alliance
That's poured it's heart out for years
Fill the table with empties
Empty words, empty friends
Stir the years into memories
And wonder where they went
